The much-anticipated sequel to the cult folk horror film Tumbbad now has a release date. The makers have officially announced that Tumbbad 2 will arrive in cinemas on December 3, 2027, building excitement among fans who have been waiting for the story to continue.
The announcement was made through a poster shared on social media, featuring three sculpted figures with the film’s title placed above them. The visual also carried the ominous line ‘Pralay aayega’, hinting at a darker and more intense narrative ahead. The reveal follows weeks of subtle promotions, including a motion poster that had already sparked curiosity around the project.
Actor-producer Sohum Shah, who returns to headline the sequel, described the film as a natural extension of the original’s world. In a statement, he said the aim is to deepen the mythology while exploring fresh layers within the story, offering something that feels both familiar and new. Shah also shared a cryptic message online, suggesting themes of greed and consequences will continue to shape the narrative.
Directed by Adesh Prasad, the sequel will also feature Nawazuddin Siddiqui, whose involvement had been announced earlier. Prasad noted that carrying forward a story with such a strong identity comes with its challenges, but the team is focused on preserving its essence while expanding its visual and narrative scope.Backed by Sohum Shah Films in collaboration with Pen Studios, the film will be distributed by Pen Marudhar.
