For allegedly spreading communal hatred, a complaint has been filed against Twitter India MD Manish Maheshwari with the Delhi Police’s Cyber Cell.
According to ANI, a non-profit organization has also been named in the complaint which has been filed by an advocate Aditya Singh Deshwal. Mentioning that the content posted by the Twitter users is not only abusive but has been posted with several purposes causing inconvenience, obstruction, danger, insult, annoyance, injury, criminal intimidation, enmity, hatred, and ill will in the society, a picture of goddess Kali shared by the handle the Atheist Republic has been flagged by the complainant.
To outrage the religious feelings of Hindus and insult their religious beliefs, these posts have been put up by the said user deliberately, mentioned by the advocate.
Along with Shagufta Kamran, public policy manager of Twitter India, a registration of an FIR against Manish Maheshwari, the MD of Twitter India, Twitter communications India private limited as well as Armin Navabi and Susanna Macintrye who is the founder and CEO respectively of Republic Atheist, has been asked by the advocate.
In the light of section 79 of the Information Technology Act, 2000, the advocate accused Twitter of violating the provisions of the Indian Penal Code, 1860. According to the advocate, no action was taken to remove such objectionable content from the microblogging website by Maheshwari and Kamran deliberately.
