IPL 2021, which was stopped halfway as India witnessed a huge spike in the COVID-19 cases will now resume in the United Arab Emirates.
The decision came out after the BCCI’S Special General Meeting(SGM) which was held today in Mumbai. According to the information which is been trickling around the cricketing circles, the Country’s chief cricketing body has come to a decision to conduct the remaining 31 games of the tournament in the ‘desert’ country with concerns about the COVID-19 situations here in India.
Also, BCCI has made up a decision to seek more time to host the T-20 World Cup here in the country from the ICC. However, the International Cricket Council(ICC) has scheduled a meeting on June 1 to come up with a decision on this issue. But, the world cricketing body may have to defer the decision on moving the October 18-November 15 tournament out of India in view of the BCCI’s request. The BCCI thinks that it will explore all possibilities to host it in India itself.
BCCI’S move to shift the 14th edition of the IPL was not something unknown as this was something an ‘open secret’. Apparently, it is said that the BCCI has already had an informal agreement with the Emirates Cricket Board in the UAE.
Last year’s edition of IPL was also conducted in the UAE as the country was in a bad shape with concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic.
