Varun Dhawan opens up on daughter Lara’s medical condition; calls for early awareness among parents

Actor Varun Dhawan has spoken about a personal chapter of his life, revealing that his daughter Lara was diagnosed with Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH) at a young age. In a recent conversation on Be A Man, Yaar!, the actor chose to share the experience to raise awareness about the condition among parents.

Dhawan explained that DDH affects the hip joint, where it may not form properly, making movement difficult for children. In Lara’s case, the condition led to difficulty in walking and imbalance. He shared that although surgery was not required, she had to undergo a medical procedure and remain in a spica cast for nearly two and a half months. The process, he admitted, was challenging, especially seeing his child adjust to the cast after anaesthesia.

The actor noted that while advanced treatment for such conditions is more widely accessible in some countries from birth, India too has capable doctors who manage such cases effectively. He emphasised that early detection can make a significant difference, as the condition is treatable if identified in time.

Dhawan urged parents to carefully observe their child’s movements during early development and seek medical advice if anything appears unusual. He also clarified that he did not share the experience to invite sympathy, but to increase awareness about a condition that many may not recognise early.

Varun and his wife Natasha Dalal welcomed their daughter in June 2024. The actor has often spoken about how fatherhood has changed him, adding that being a girl dad has made him more emotional and deeply protective.
