Sadly, on January 1, 2025, we lost one of the founding members, Wayne Osmond, at the age of 73.
Wayne Osmond was born in 1951, the fifth son of Olive May Davis and George Virl Osmond. The Osmond family’s musical journey began when Wayne’s older brothers, Alan, Merrill, and Jay, started singing as a barbershop quartet. Eventually, Wayne and his younger brother Donny joined the group, which evolved into a pop band. The Osmonds were discovered in 1962 while performing at Disneyland, and soon after, they became regulars on The Andy Williams Show.
As the 1970s arrived, The Osmonds transitioned into a pop sensation, releasing a series of hit singles and albums. Wayne, who played lead guitar, played a key role in shaping the band’s sound, particularly during their shift toward rock ‘n’ roll in the mid-70s. His distinctive guitar playing was an integral part of the band’s appeal, which earned them comparisons to The Jackson 5. Songs like “One Bad Apple” and “Crazy Horses” cemented their status as pop icons. Wayne also took part in the spin-off duo Donny & Marie, starring alongside his brother Donny in their variety show that aired from 1976 to 1979.
As the years passed and the music scene evolved, the Osmonds’ popularity began to fade, as is common for most pop bands. However, Wayne and his siblings continued to perform occasionally and stayed active in charitable causes. A devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Wayne embodied the values of his faith both on and off the stage.

In his later years, Wayne faced significant health challenges, including a brain tumor in 1997 and a stroke in 2012. These health issues took their toll, and Wayne also experienced severe hearing loss. For a musician, losing hearing is akin to an artist losing their sight, and it led Wayne to retire from the music industry.
On January 1, 2025, Wayne suffered another stroke, one that he couldn’t recover from. His family confirmed his peaceful passing in a heartfelt statement, sharing that Wayne’s legacy of faith, music, love, and laughter had touched the lives of many people worldwide.
