Former cricketer Akash Chopra has shown disappointment over the selection of the Indian squad for the tour against Sri Lanka, Aakash Chopra said that the Indian team management will have a huge headache during the Sri Lanka series, as selectors have included as many as six spinners in the team for the tour.

The Men in Blue, under Shikhar Dhawan’s leadership, will play six white-ball games against Sri Lanka in July. A 20-member squad has been announced for the tour, which includes six spinners. On his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra shared a video where he pointed out that captain Shikhar Dhawan and coach Rahul Dravid will have a headache choosing between the six spin-bowling options.

In his video, Akash spoked- “There are as many as six spinners but only four fast bowlers. Who picks six spinners? It will be a headache for the captain and the coach on whom they should play and when.”

Aakash Chopra said that the Indian team will not be able to play more than three spinners in a particular encounter. He quoted “There is Rahul Chahar, Yuzi Chahal, Varun Chakravarthy, Krunal Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav, and Krishnappa Gowtham. You will not be able to play more than three in any of the matches,”

Aakash Chopra talked that playing three spinners might also be difficult, He thinks Krunal Pandya can be picked in playing XI as the only finisher. Akash said “Playing three also becomes difficult, quite a few times you play only two and play three fast bowlers instead. Krunal Pandya will play because you don’t have a finisher. After that only two spinners can play.”

And for the remaining two spots for spinners, former cricketers named Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav as his preferred options in the ODIs.

“In ODIs, you will definitely play Yuzi Chahal. So maximum you will be able to play one more spinner. I would say to play Kuldeep because you will not play him in the T20Is in any case. But then what will you do with Varun Chakravarthy, Rahul Chahar and why have you selected Krishnappa Gowtham,” said, Aakash Chopra.

The Sri Lankan tour will begin with three ODIs matches starting from July 13, followed by the same number of T20Is starting from July 21. All the matches will be played in R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
