WPL 2025 MIW vs DCW: Harmanpreet on fire with 18 runs in 4 balls, but Lanning’s strategy turns the tide

Mumbai Indians’ captain Harmanpreet Kaur was in destructive form as she smashed 18 runs off four balls against Annabel Sutherland, but her blistering innings came to an abrupt end on the very next delivery. The dismissal came immediately after Delhi Capitals’ skipper Meg Lanning had an animated chat with Sutherland, urging her to change her approach. The very next ball, Sutherland delivered a wide, full-length ball, forcing Kaur to go after it, and she ended up slicing it straight to deep point where debutant Niki Prasad held on to a crucial catch.

Kaur had dominated the over before her dismissal, starting with a beautiful cut shot past backward point for four. She then followed it up with another boundary over short third man, before launching a massive six over deep mid-wicket. The next ball, another thick outside edge flew for four, bringing her quickfire tally to 42 off just 22 balls, including four fours and three sixes.

Sutherland, who was under immense pressure after conceding 18 runs in just four deliveries, managed to hold her nerve and executed the plan devised by Lanning, securing the key wicket. With Kaur’s departure, Delhi Capitals have an opportunity to pull things back and restrict Mumbai’s charge in the death overs. However, with Nat Sciver-Brunt still at the crease and looking dangerous, MI remains on course for a massive total.
