Adam Scott shared a hilarious and somewhat awkward story on Late Night With Seth Meyers, where he revealed how he had to convince his co-workers on Severance that he wasn’t on drugs—specifically cocaine—while filming the second season.
Scott explained that during the shoot, he suffered a concussion and soon after started having a persistent nosebleed that just wouldn’t stop. As he put it, no matter what they tried, the bleeding just wouldn’t stop. The actor jokingly said, “It was disgusting and frustrating, but also, when there’s an actor who has a nose that will not stop bleeding, obviously, it’s cocaine, right? We all know this.”
To make sure people didn’t jump to conclusions, Scott admitted to overcompensating and making a ton of jokes about cocaine, trying to assure everyone that he wasn’t using any drugs. But by the end of the day, he realized that, without a doubt, people still thought he was on cocaine.
Eventually, Scott went to the emergency room in upstate New York, where doctors cauterized the inside of his nose to stop the bleeding. A picture taken by Ben Stiller during the procedure was even shown to the audience.
Scott recalled asking the doctor if the procedure would hurt, and the doctor confirmed that it would. But, he added, “The more challenging aspect of this will be the extreme feeling of pepper being shoved up” Scott’s nose. The actor admitted that it did indeed hurt, and it felt like “a pound of pepper” had been poured into his nostrils. He said the doctor kept urging him not to sneeze during the procedure, adding to the ridiculousness of the situation.
It’s a funny and bizarre story from the actor, but thankfully, it all ended well with no more nosebleeds!
