Amy Schumer reveals asking Kim Kardashian about incorporating a joke about her late dad

Amy Schumer is making sure she doesn’t step on any toes—especially when it comes to her jokes. The comedian and actress recently revealed that she sought Kim Kardashian’s permission before including a joke about her late father, Robert Kardashian, and O.J. Simpson in her latest Netflix film, Kinda Pregnant.

In one particular scene, Schumer’s character, Lainy, is babysitting and reading a bedtime story from a fictional pop culture magazine called Profile. The story humorously refers to the Kardashian family, saying, “There was once a family of beautiful, beautiful princesses called the Kardashians,” before adding, “And they lived in a palace that their dad bought them by defending a murderer.”

During an appearance on The Howard Stern Show, Schumer shared how she handled the potentially sensitive joke. Before including it in the movie, she called Kim Kardashian directly to ask if she was okay with it. According to Schumer, Kim was completely unfazed. “I asked if she would mind, and she didn’t mind. How cool is she?” Schumer recalled, adding that Kim even laughed about it, saying, “Yeah, do the one about my dad defending a murderer.”

For those unfamiliar with the reference, Robert Kardashian was not only a close friend of O.J. Simpson but also one of his defense attorneys during the infamous 1995 murder trial. Simpson was accused of killing his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ronald Goldman, in a case that remains one of the most controversial in American history.

As for Kinda Pregnant, the comedy boasts a star-studded cast, including Will Forte, Damon Wayans Jr., Jillian Bell, Alex Moffat, Lizze Broadway, Joel David Moore, Urzila Carlson, Francis Benhamou, and Brianne Howey.
