She had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on April 11 after suffering from a chest infection and extreme exhaustion. Despite medical care, the iconic singer succumbed to multiple organ failure a day later.

Her passing has left the music industry and millions of fans in deep grief. Singer and composer Shankar Mahadevan expressed his sorrow, calling it a tragic loss not just personally but for Indian music as a whole. He shared that words fall short in capturing the impact she had, describing her as a guiding force akin to a divine presence. Mahadevan added that her voice and contribution will continue to live on across generations, resonating through every platform where music exists.
