Asha Bhosle’s final recording leaves singer Sudeep Banerji emotional; calls upcoming release bittersweet

The passing of legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle has plunged the nation into grief, with members of the music fraternity sharing heartfelt memories. Among them is ghazal singer Sudeep Banerji, who recently collaborated with the icon and now holds on to those moments with deep emotion.

In a conversation with Hindustan Times, Banerji spoke about recording a song with Asha Bhosle just a few months ago, describing the experience as unforgettable. He highlighted how, despite her towering legacy, she remained humble and respectful towards the entire team, especially the music director.

He further shared that the veteran singer believed in working closely with her collaborators. Instead of relying on remote recordings, she would invite him home, spending hours understanding every detail of the song from lyrics to subtle nuances reflecting a discipline that he feels is missing in many modern-day artists.

Banerji also expressed his admiration for her remarkable energy. Even at 92, she insisted on coming to the studio and recorded for hours without any support, maintaining complete professionalism and positivity throughout the session.

Apart from her musical brilliance, he remembered her warmth off-stage, her love for cooking and her personal touch in making everyone feel at home. As the song they recorded awaits release, Banerji admitted it will now be a bittersweet moment, carrying the weight of loss along with the joy of having worked with a legend.
