Ashutosh Rana Talks About Adipurush’s Mistakes

Actor Ashutosh Rana has shared his views on the failure of Om Raut’s ambitious film Adipurush, which turned out to be a box office disaster. The movie, starring Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan, faced heavy criticism for its subpar VFX, inadequate graphics, mediocre dialogues, and lackluster plot.

In a recent interview with SCREEN, Ashutosh discussed why Adipurush failed to resonate with audiences. He emphasized that larger-than-life cinema must adhere to the fundamental principles of filmmaking, including dialogues, costumes, and authenticity. “If we don’t take care of all these factors, then the audience doesn’t appreciate it at all,” he said. He also highlighted that people are emotionally attached to mythology, making it crucial to maintain its sanctity.

Comparing Adipurush with the iconic Ramayana TV series, Ashutosh pointed out that the latter was well-received because of its attention to detail in costumes, settings, and performances. “People should see Ravana in me, not Ashutosh Rana,” he stated, explaining that audiences want to connect with the character, not the actor.

Despite some post-release dialogue adjustments, Adipurush continued to face backlash, particularly for its modernized lines like “marega bete” and “bua ka bagicha hai kya.” Ashutosh, who will portray Ravan in the theatre production Humare Ram, believes filmmakers must respect the holiness of such subjects to truly engage the audience.
