BLACKPINK’s Jennie reveals about restrictions on life as K-pop idol

Jennie Kim, a member of BLACKPINK, recently discussed the drawbacks of living the life of a K-pop idol in South Korea.

She recently appeared on Dua Lipa’s podcast with her and disclosed that being a K-pop star has limited her in many ways, which has worried her. She stated that one shouldn’t condemn someone for expressing themselves in their own way, alluding to the pressures of the profession.

After making her acting debut in the HBO Original series The Idol, Jennie issued the following comment. Jennie played a supporting character in the Lily Rose Depp-starring television series. While many praised Jennie’s brief appearance, several social media users expressed displeasure with her character and the sexual nature of the programme, pointing to her public persona.

“Starting my career in Korea as a K-pop singer has constrained so many sides of myself, where it wasn’t merely permitted to be revealed because I’m a K-pop idol,” Jennie was reported by Variety as saying to Dua Lipa.

“Additionally, I believe I was reluctant to express myself. And as things developed over time, I was able to express myself and others would see it as pushing the envelope rather than she’s doing something that she’s not allowed to do, opening a new chapter for those beginning their careers in business in Korea. That’s when I realised I need to push limits even farther so that people in my culture may see that expressing oneself freely shouldn’t be the norm.”

“Therefore, I believe that one of the earliest songs in which the F-word is truly used is Tally. Additionally, I was unable to say the song aloud when I initially started performing it. Can I get away from the microphone, I asked. Do people consider this to be somewhat improper?”

Later, as more listeners embraced the song, Jennie continued, “I started interacting with Blinks [BLACKPINK fans]. “When I was performing that song on stage, they said, “Yeah, do your thing. And they were the ones who gave me the self-assurance and encouragement to truly appreciate the music,” she added.

BLACKPINK included Tally in a show earlier this year at Coachella. BLACKPINK is made up of Jisoo,Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa.
