Andy Cohen had a blast watching Shania Twain’s performance on New Year’s Eve, but his co-host Anderson Cooper didn’t seem as impressed. While Twain was delivering an energetic mini-concert, Cooper was on his phone, which didn’t go unnoticed by Cohen. Not shy about calling him out, Cohen jokingly questioned Cooper’s need to be glued to his phone during such a show-stopping moment. Apart from Twain, other celebrities like Diplo and Ralph Fiennes also joined the festivities during the live broadcast.
When asked about their New Year resolutions in a chat with The New York Times, Cohen kept his answer consistent, saying, “Mine is the same as it always is, which is to spend less time on my phone.” Cooper, always quick with a joke, responded with, “That would be good. That’s my resolution for Andy as well.” Cohen, not missing a beat, teased his co-host, saying, “Well, sweetie, you were on your phone last night while Shania Twain was killing it performing ‘Man, I Feel Like a Woman.’”
The two TV personalities also opened up about their hosting dynamics. Cohen admitted that what annoyed him most about hosting the show was Cooper’s constant giggling. He described it as Cooper being “in a puddle of giggles” for most of the broadcast while Cohen had to keep things on track, managing commercial breaks and handling the serious moments. “I kind of turn into Mr. CNN for the last 90 minutes, and he turns into Mr. Bravo,” Cohen joked.
On Cooper’s side, he also had a few playful grievances about hosting with Cohen. He shared that his pet peeve was never knowing exactly what Cohen would say next and how they’d have to clean up the mess the following morning.
The duo’s New Year’s Eve broadcast didn’t lack drama, with Cohen and Cooper laughing at Diplo’s tardiness and sharing amusing moments like comedian Roy Wood Jr. rejecting a tequila shot from Cohen. Wood also took the opportunity to call out CNN for firing Don Lemon during the live broadcast, adding a little extra spice to the night’s festivities.
