At the 2025 Grammy Awards, rapper Doechii turned heads not just with her win but also with her bold beauty choice—sporting visible face tape on the red carpet. The look sparked curiosity, with many fans wondering why she had opted for such an unconventional statement.
Doechii, who took home her first Grammy for Best Rap Album, has fully embraced the trend. She first addressed the style back in 2024, posting a TikTok video where she made it clear that the face tape was no accident. In her signature confident style, the DENIAL IS A RIVER rapper captioned the post “addressing the face tape” and simply explained, “The face tapes are there on purpose because… it’s c-nt.”
While her daring beauty choice divided opinions, face tape itself is nothing new. It’s been a longtime trick in the beauty industry, offering a non-invasive way to lift and contour the face without resorting to surgery. As cosmetic procedures like facelifts become more mainstream, face tape remains a quick, painless, and budget-friendly alternative for achieving a sculpted look.
Experts believe Doechii’s openness about using face tape reflects a broader cultural shift. Speaking to People, board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Rukmini Rednam explained that in the past, people kept their beauty enhancements a secret due to fear of judgment. “Now, with celebrities being more transparent about their beauty treatments, Doechii is proudly embracing this product to achieve a specific aesthetic—without shame or apology,” she said.
Beyond her bold beauty statement, Doechii made history at the 2025 Grammys, winning Best Rap Album for her mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal. With this victory, she became only the third woman ever to win in that category, solidifying her place as a trailblazer in the industry.
