Frasier Reboot Canceled After Two Seasons

Paramount+ has decided not to continue with a third season of its rebooted sitcom Frasier. The show, which premiered on October 12, 2023, brought back Kelsey Grammer in his iconic role as Frasier Crane, a character he’s portrayed since Cheers back in 1984. The reboot followed Frasier’s return to Boston, where he aimed to improve his relationship with his son, Frederick (played by Jack Cutmore-Scott), a firefighter in the city. The series also explored Frasier’s new life as a professor at Harvard University, where he settled into Freddy’s apartment building.

Despite the cancellation of a third season on Paramount+, CBS Studios, the company behind the show, is still committed to the Frasier franchise. They are actively looking for other platforms where the series could continue, so fans may still see new episodes in the future.

The second season, which aired in September 2024, introduced some exciting new faces. Patricia Heaton joined the cast as Holly, a new romantic interest for Frasier, and Peri Gilpin returned as Roz Doyle, though this time in a bigger role as a recurring character after being a guest star in the first season.

In season two, Frasier made a return to Seattle, and longtime fans got a treat with cameo appearances from familiar faces from the original Frasier show. Dan Butler (Bulldog) and Edward Hibbert (Gil Chesterton) showed up, while Bebe Neuwirth reprised her role as Frasier’s ex-wife, Lilith, a character originally introduced on Cheers.

The reboot also brought in several fresh characters. Nicholas Lyndhurst played Alan, Frasier’s old college buddy who becomes a professor. Toks Olagundoye starred as Olivia, a colleague of Alan’s and head of the university’s psychology department. Jess Salgueiro played Eve, a neighbor to Frasier and Freddy, and Anders Keith took on the role of Frasier’s nephew, David.

Altogether, Kelsey Grammer’s portrayal of Frasier Crane has spanned an incredible 484 episodes across Cheers, Frasier, and the reboot, making him one of the most iconic characters in television history. Even though the show won’t continue on Paramount+, there’s still a possibility that Frasier will find new life elsewhere.
