Gabriel Macht is returning to the iconic role of Harvey Specter for Suits LA, but he’s quick to emphasize that this return isn’t for personal gain. In an interview with People, Macht explained that his motivation for stepping back into Harvey’s sharp suit isn’t because he missed acting but because of his dedication to the fans and the new show. “I’m not doing it for me. I’ve done it 134 times. I’m not doing it for me,” Macht said, reflecting on his nine-season run as the charismatic lawyer in the original Suits series.
Although Macht has enjoyed focusing on personal projects and spending time with his family since Suits ended, he saw an opportunity to support the expansion of the Suits universe with Suits LA. The new series will shift the legal drama from New York to Los Angeles, introducing a fresh cast led by Stephen Amell as Ted Black, a top lawyer. Macht’s return is not only a gesture of support for Amell but also a way to help establish the new show. “If I [could have] anything to do with helping support the show and getting it off [the ground], it’s almost like [giving] a blessing,” Macht explained.
Despite his initial hesitation about diving back into the acting world, Macht acknowledges the unique connection between Harvey and Ted, which he has seen in the scripts for Suits LA. Macht teased that there’s an interesting dynamic between the two characters, which will unfold as the show progresses. “I’ve read some scripts, and I see what it is, and I understand now how the characters of Ted and Harvey connect,” he shared.
The show will introduce a fresh cast, including Josh McDermitt, Lex Scott Davis, and Bryan Greenberg, as they navigate the challenges of a law firm in crisis. Suits LA will explore how this new team redefines their approach while dealing with high-stakes legal battles in the competitive Los Angeles market. While Harvey’s role in the show might be more limited, his presence will undoubtedly add an air of prestige and connection to the original Suits world, giving the new generation of characters a solid foundation to build upon.
