Hansal Mehta Advocates for Better Roles for Women in Bollywood; Praises Triptii Dimri’s Rise

Filmmaker Hansal Mehta has once again voiced his opinion on the need for bolder casting choices in Hindi cinema. In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter) shared on Thursday, Mehta highlighted female actors who deserve more recognition, emphasizing their talent over social media popularity or box office figures.

Mehta began his post by stating, “Women in Hindi cinema deserve more recognition—and, more importantly, better roles.” He added that his list is not exhaustive but focuses on actors who have impressed through their craft and presence.

At the forefront of his praise was actor Triptii Dimri. He lauded her journey from independent films like Bulbbul and Qala to mainstream success with Animal (2023). According to Mehta, Dimri has the potential to become a game-changer like Kangana Ranaut, as her compelling screen presence can even make male co-stars feel insecure. He urged filmmakers to offer her opportunities without relying on male star power.

Other actors mentioned in Mehta’s list include Sharvari, Ananya Panday, Medha Shankar, Pratibha Ranta, Preeti Panigrahi, and Kani Kusruti. He also called for more complex roles for established female stars like Tabu, Vidya Balan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Rani Mukerji, and Konkona Sen Sharma.

Triptii Dimri, who debuted in Mom (2017), gained recognition with Laila Majnu (2018). Her career soared after her performance in Animal, and in 2024, she appeared in Bad Newz, Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3.
