Sophie Thatcher, best known for her role in Yellowjackets, is reportedly in talks to join Prime Video’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith for its second season. If the negotiations go through, she will star alongside Mark Eydelshteyn, according to Deadline. Previously, the role was offered to pop star Billie Eilish, but she had to decline due to her ongoing tour commitments.
Amazon MGM Studios is reportedly looking for actors in their 20s to play the new Mr. & Mrs. Smith characters for the second season. The series, co-produced by Amazon MGM Studios and New Regency, is created by Donald Glover and Francesca Sloane. The first season saw Glover and Maya Erskine as a couple of spies, navigating their dangerous careers while grappling with real feelings for each other. The season ended on a cliffhanger with John and Jane in a gunfight.
While the series may introduce new characters in each season, it’s unclear whether the storyline will continue with the same characters or a new direction. The original Mr. & Mrs. Smith film, released in 2005, starred Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, but the new series will feature different characters, not replacements for Glover and Erskine.
