Jason Momoa is officially returning to the DC universe, this time as Lobo, the iconic galactic bounty hunter. The actor shared the exciting news by reposting an interview from 2023 where he expressed his long-standing desire to play the character, calling Lobo his favorite comic role. In the interview, Momoa enthusiastically stated, “If they call and ask me to play him, it’s a f— yeah,” making it clear that he was eager to take on the role. However, he had clarified at the time that it was just something he wanted and not an official announcement.
On December 30, Momoa posted his quote on Instagram with the caption “They called,” confirming that the opportunity to play Lobo had indeed arrived.
Momoa’s Lobo will make his debut in the Supergirl movie, which will also feature House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El. Directed by I, Tonya‘s Craig Gillespie, the film will also star Matthias Schoenaerts as the villain Krem of the Yellow Hill and Eve Ridley as the galactic warrior Ruthye Marye Knoll. While plot details are scarce, the movie is said to be based on the comic Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which follows Supergirl helping an alien girl named Ruthye seek revenge on the people who destroyed her world.
James Gunn, who is leading the DC Universe project, confirmed Momoa’s casting on X (formerly Twitter) with an art piece of Lobo holding a cigar, wrapped in the American flag, and a message that read, “Welcome to the #DCU, Jason Momoa.” Fans are excited to see how Momoa will bring the wild and chaotic character of Lobo to life.
