During the January 13 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, host Jimmy Kimmel became visibly emotional as he discussed the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles. Kimmel, who was forced to evacuate the show’s studio at the El Capitan Entertainment Center the previous week, shared that the situation had been “very scary and stressful.”
With a trembling voice, Kimmel expressed the fear and uncertainty many residents of L.A. felt, saying, “Where we work. Where we live. Where our kids go to school.” He then showed a clip of the wildfire dangerously close to the studio.
He further explained the personal impact, revealing that many of his coworkers had to flee their homes quickly, with some even losing everything in the fires. “Everyone in this city knows someone—whether it’s a friend, neighbor, or family member—who lost their home,” Kimmel said, his voice cracking with emotion.
What made the situation even more unsettling for Kimmel was the uncertainty about whether the fires were truly over. He described the experience as “sickening, shocking, and awful,” but took a moment to praise the overwhelming solidarity and compassion shown by the people of Los Angeles in the face of the disaster.
Kimmel also expressed his deep gratitude to the first responders, including firefighters, police officers, National Guards, rescue workers, doctors, nurses, and local news reporters, for their tireless work during the crisis.
