Joe Alwyn shared a wild childhood prank on The Drew Barrymore Show

Joe Alwyn, the actor known for his roles in The Favourite and The Brutalist, recently shared a hilarious yet wild childhood story during his appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show on Friday. Alwyn, who was in a long-term relationship with Taylor Swift from 2017 to 2023, took a trip down memory lane to when he was just eight years old and pulled off a prank that quickly spiraled out of control.

The actor explained that he and his older brother, Thomas, decided it would be fun to prank their neighbors. The mischievous pair wrote “threatening prank-y” letters, soaked them in fake blood from a toy store, and then slipped them into every mailbox on their street.

At first, the prank seemed harmless and funny. “We thought this was really funny because it was working! Success!” Alwyn said. However, things quickly took a serious turn. When their parents returned from a walk with the dog, the phone rang with a concerned neighbor asking if they had received one of the unsettling letters.

Alwyn and his brother initially found the chaos amusing, but the situation quickly escalated. “The street was quickly filled with the entire neighborhood in tears, and screaming, and worried,” Alwyn recalled. The prank, which had started as innocent fun, had now caused an overwhelming amount of distress.

The drama didn’t stop there. The police were called, and even Scotland Yard reportedly got involved. “I’m not joking; this is true,” Alwyn said, describing the surreal scene. As things became more serious, Alwyn and his brother confessed to their parents and the authorities. “I don’t remember what the policeman yelled at me, but they yelled,” Alwyn admitted, noting that he genuinely feared he might get arrested for the prank.

Thankfully, the story ended with no major consequences, but it certainly left a lasting memory for Alwyn. It’s a classic example of how what seems like a harmless joke can quickly get out of hand!
