Jude Law is set to take on one of his most challenging roles yet, portraying Russian President Vladimir Putin in the upcoming film The Wizard of the Kremlin. In a recent interview with Deadline, the 52-year-old actor discussed the daunting task of preparing for the role, describing it as an “Everest to climb” and admitting he feels a mix of both excitement and trepidation. Law revealed that while he has started his preparations, the weight of portraying such a high-profile figure is overwhelming. “I was going, ‘Oh God, how am I going to do this?’” he confessed, reflecting on his feelings when he initially accepted the role.
Directed by Olivier Assayas, The Wizard of the Kremlin explores the early years of Putin’s rise to power. Based on the bestselling book by Giuliano da Empoli, the screenplay is adapted by Emmanuel Carrère. The film stars a stellar cast including Paul Dano, Alicia Vikander, and Zach Galifianakis, with Law at the center of this complex and politically charged narrative.
Law also touched on the pressure of taking on challenging roles, noting that he often feels intimidated when committing to a part, but sees this as part of the process of overcoming his personal barriers. “That’s often how I feel whilst I say yes,” he explained.
Most recently, Law received a significant career milestone, being honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in December 2024. He has also been busy with other projects, including The Order and the new Star Wars series Skeleton Crew on Disney+.
