Justin Baldoni allegedly had an aggressive confrontation with Ryan Reynolds over fat-shaming Blake Lively

Justin Baldoni is taking legal action against The New York Times, accusing the publication of amplifying false and misleading harassment allegations brought by his co-star, Blake Lively. In the lawsuit, Baldoni alleges that Lively’s husband, Ryan Reynolds, confronted him aggressively on the set of It Ends With Us after he believed his wife had been fat-shamed during filming. Baldoni claims the argument stemmed from his discussion of safety concerns regarding a stunt involving a lift, particularly after he had recent back surgery, and that it escalated when Reynolds misunderstood his intentions.

Baldoni describes the confrontation as intense and says he repeatedly apologized to Reynolds in an effort to de-escalate the situation. He claims Lively refused to perform the stunt despite having rehearsed it with a stunt double, leading to further tensions. Baldoni asserts that he continued to comply with Lively’s demands to avoid further conflict and to maintain a positive working relationship.

The lawsuit follows allegations made by Lively in December, accusing Baldoni of sexual harassment and retaliation, including claims that he ordered his team to leak negative press about her. These allegations were highlighted in The New York Times’ December article, “We Can Bury Anyone: Inside a Hollywood Smear Machine,” which explored Hollywood’s use of smear tactics. Baldoni’s suit argues that Lively fabricated these claims to manipulate the film’s production and divert attention from her own controversies.

In his legal filings, Baldoni accuses Lively of using the allegations to control the narrative and protect her image, while accusing The New York Times of publishing a skewed version of events that harmed his reputation.
