Kane Williamson all set and excited for the World Test Championship finals and the England Test series

World Test Championship final is pretty special, says New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson

New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson who recently joined his fellow mates at the Ageas Bowl, Southhampton is all resorted and excited to play two-test match series against England followed by the World Test Championship final against India. The Kiwi skipper finds the WTC final pretty special as the main event.

“But there’s a lot of excitement. Just being over here to play Test cricket is always a fantastic opportunity, but to play that third one, which is the World Test Championship final, is pretty special”, Williamson stated.

All the players are been quarantined and will be shortly allowed to enter the mini training groups of six once the pending negative test for COVID-19. Williamson who was leading the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2021 and was moved to the Maldives after the provisional suspension of the league flew along with fellow IPL travellers Kyle Jamieson, Mitchell Santner, team physio Tommy Simsek and trainer Chris Donaldson.

“Most of the team is here now. We are all pretty much on the same side of the hotel so we’re able to catch up a little bit with one another on our different balconies. For a number of guys, it’s their first time in the bubble, while others have done it a few times, so that can be quite helpful”, said the Kiwi skipper.

Williamson described that despite England missing out on some big names for the Test series against them, they have a huge depth of players to keep the rotation going on. He also stated that no one knows English conditions better than the lethal duo of Stuart Broad and James Anderson. They both first started in 2007-08 and still have control with the ball with more than 1000 wickets shared between them.

“They are legends of the game, still playing and doing as well as they ever have done,” Williamson said. “They know these conditions better than anyone. They’ve had incredible careers that are still going and they are still at the heights of their games.” The captain concluded.

However, Kiwis will have an upper hand over India due to their series against England prior to the WTC final. India who has announced its squad for the WTC final followed by the Test series against England looks firm and confident. The much-awaited main event will kick start on June 18 where the Kiwis will lock horns with Kohli and his men to fight for the WTC title. Currently, India stands ahead of New Zealand by one point to top the ICC Test Team Rankings.
