Sanya Malhotra’s latest film Mrs has been receiving widespread acclaim since its release on ZEE5 on February 7. A Hindi remake of the Malayalam film The Great Indian Kitchen, Mrs follows the journey of Richa, an aspiring dancer who finds herself trapped in a patriarchal household after marriage.
Veteran actor Kanwaljit Singh, who plays Richa’s father-in-law in the film, recently revealed in an interview with India Today that he felt compelled to apologize to Malhotra after watching the film. Reflecting on his performance, he said, “All I remember was how I ate a lot of food; otherwise, I didn’t remember much. Since that film, I have shot for almost four other projects, so I had forgotten all about the character. When I saw the film, I felt so disgusted that I instantly went to Sanya and said sorry.”
Singh further added that Malhotra was surprised by his apology and asked why he felt the need to do so. “I told her I had forgotten how much I troubled her in the film and hence felt bad. She has nailed the part, and seeing her go through the struggles left all of us distraught.”
Directed by Arati Kadav, Mrs has not only resonated deeply with audiences but also broke records on ZEE5, becoming the platform’s biggest opening and the most searched film on Google. The film’s raw and powerful storytelling continues to spark discussions on women’s struggles in patriarchal setups.
