Karan Johar Breaks Silence on Nadaaniyan Backlash

Filmmaker Karan Johar has finally addressed the backlash surrounding his latest production, Nadaaniyan, starring Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor. The film, which marked the Bollywood debut of Saif Ali Khan’s son Ibrahim, faced criticism for its dialogues and performances.

During the trailer launch of his upcoming production Akaal, Karan Johar responded to the controversy. Quoting a famous Bollywood song, he said, “Kuch toh log kahenge, logon ka kaam hai kehna… chhodo bekaar ki baatein, beet na jaaye raina” (People will always talk; it’s their job to do so… let go of unnecessary chatter before the night slips away).

He further addressed the negative reviews, stating, “My relationship with critics remains unchanged. Their opinions are their job, and I don’t believe there’s a conspiracy to bring down the film.” Regarding online trolling, Johar added, “Trolls are often nameless people venting their own frustrations. I feel pity for them, nothing more.”

However, the filmmaker expressed concern over the harsh language used by some critics. “A critic wrote that they wanted to kick the film. That’s a reflection on them, not the film,” he remarked.

Adding a touch of humor, Johar playfully referenced his past productions, saying, “We too have our Nadaaniyan (naivety), some Gustakhiyan (missteps), and even Gehraiyaan (deep emotions).” Despite the backlash, Karan Johar maintained his respect for critics and acknowledged the challenges faced by newcomers like Ibrahim and Khushi.
