Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions to partner with Viacom 18

According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, Viacom 18 has acquired the distribution rights for Dharma Productions as the partnership with a South-based production house Lyca Productions failed.

Dharma Productions has decided to enter into a partnership with Viacom and reports by Bollywood Hungama also suggests that the mega-production house has also acquired the entire forthcoming slate of Dharma Productions.

Karan Johar’s Dharma Production has been looking for a partnership for a long time and had also reached out to a South-based production house Lyca Productions to improve its distribution rights across the country and the filmmaking. However, the deal between Dharma Productions and Lyca Productions failed.

Following which a deal between Viacom 18 and Dharma Productions was established as Karan was still on his hunt for partnering with good production giants. The reports by Bollywood Hungama source also call it to be the ‘biggest acquisition of recent times’ and added that trade circles state “Viacom rescued Dharma Productions at just the right time.”

Earlier, Karan had partnered with Fox Star Studios, but their collaboration with Disney lead to an end to the association with Dharma Productions. Brahmastra was the last film they did together.

Takht is one of the upcoming films of Dharma Productions starring Ranvir Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Alia Bhatt. It’s Karan Johar’s dream project and there have controversies following the delay in the shoot of the movie and it is now anticipated to release in December this year.
