Lil Wayne recently shared his thoughts on not being selected to perform at the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show in New Orleans, his hometown, which will instead feature Kendrick Lamar. Appearing on The Skip Bayless Show on December 17, Wayne expressed disappointment over not being chosen but made it clear that there was no animosity between him and Lamar.
Wayne also discussed a verse from Lamar’s song Wacced Out Murals, which seemed to address the situation. In the track, Lamar raps, “Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down” and “Won the Super Bowl, and Nas the only one congratulated me.” Wayne interpreted these lyrics as Lamar acknowledging how much the Super Bowl performance meant to him, although Wayne stressed that Lamar had no control over the decision of who would perform at the event.
Wayne explained, “I think he saw what everyone else saw; he saw how much it meant to me. I think that’s all he meant. Obviously, he can’t control that. So, he didn’t let me down.” Despite his initial disappointment, Wayne made it clear that there were no hard feelings, and he understood that Lamar wasn’t involved in the decision-making process.
