Mark Wahlberg opened up about his experience playing the antagonist in Flight Risk

Mark Wahlberg is opening up about his intense experience playing the villain in his latest movie, Flight Risk. The actor admitted he got so immersed in his role that he had to apologize to his co-stars, especially Michelle Dockery and Topher Grace, for how deeply he got into character. In the film, Wahlberg plays a hitman who pretends to be a pilot and attacks a U.S. Marshal and a fugitive.

In an interview with People magazine, Wahlberg explained that during filming, he kept to himself, staying isolated to fully embody his character. “I was locked into the part the whole time,” he said. “So if we weren’t shooting, I was either off in the corner by myself or just in my dressing room, sitting there.”

He also revealed that his role required him to be constantly on edge, often poking and prodding his fellow cast members during scenes, especially while on the plane. “I was like the guy who was constantly picking at them, poking them, and prodding them,” Wahlberg shared.

Recognizing his intense focus on the role, the Shooter star later apologized to his co-stars for not being more engaging off-camera. He explained, “I apologized at the end because I wasn’t very engaging off camera or outside of shooting, but I was just in [that] head space.” He also noted that despite the intensity, the shoot was a fast-paced one, lasting only 22 days, which made the experience even more concentrated.

The film, which marks Wahlberg’s first time working with Mel Gibson—despite having previously acted in a few movies together—has already hit theaters. Flight Risk offers an intense thriller, with Wahlberg’s villainous turn adding to the drama.
