Melissa Gilbert is fully on board with the upcoming Little House on the Prairie reboot, embracing the fresh perspective it will bring to the beloved story.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gilbert—who famously played Laura Ingalls on the original series (1974–1984)—expressed excitement about Netflix’s upcoming adaptation. She believes the Little House universe has plenty of room for reinterpretation, just as Little Women has been retold through different lenses over the years.
“These are classic stories, and no one’s done it where they hewed to the books completely,” she noted, acknowledging that the original series was Michael Landon’s version of the tale. Now, it’s time for someone else to offer a fresh take.
Gilbert’s comments follow remarks by Alison Arngrim (who played Nellie Oleson), who revealed that none of the original cast members had been approached for the reboot. While some fans may have hoped for familiar faces, Gilbert remains optimistic about the series’ new direction.
Netflix has greenlit the Little House on the Prairie reboot, though details on the cast and plot are still under wraps. Given Gilbert’s endorsement, fans can expect a reimagining that honors the legacy while exploring new narratives.
