Nina Dobrev recently opened up about the emotional toll she experienced following the Los Angeles wildfires, which forced her to evacuate her home on January 9—her birthday. In a heartfelt video shared on Instagram, the Vampire Diaries actress admitted feeling “survivor’s guilt” after her house survived the devastation, while so many others were not as fortunate.
“I have been absolutely sick to my stomach with all the destruction and devastation that these fires have caused and displaced so many families,” Nina shared, reflecting on the tragic loss that many individuals and families faced during the crisis. She also pointed out that evacuating her home wasn’t the birthday celebration she had envisioned, urging her followers to support wildfire victims by donating to those in need.
Nina encouraged her fans to contribute financially to the recovery efforts, particularly for communities in the Pacific Palisades, Altadena, and Pasadena. She even provided a Google spreadsheet link in her bio, listing families who had lost their homes in the fires. “For my birthday this year, I went down that list and I donated to those families,” she explained, urging others to do the same by donating any amount they could afford.
The wildfires, which started on January 7, spread quickly across multiple areas, burning thousands of acres and destroying homes and businesses. Nina expressed her deep sympathy for those who lost everything, acknowledging the immeasurable tragedy that many faced, especially in cases where insurance companies had failed to support them. She made sure to highlight that the spreadsheet includes a section dedicated to supporting Black families and other historically marginalized groups who were hit particularly hard by the disaster.
The actress concluded her message with a heartfelt note of love and encouragement, acknowledging that the journey to recovery would be a long one. As of now, the wildfires are contained, but the tragedy has already claimed at least 27 lives.
