Actor-dancer Nora Fatehi recently opened up about the lack of financial benefits despite her massive popularity from hit dance numbers. In an interview with BBC Asian Network, Nora shared how she realized that while her performances boosted box-office numbers and online streams, she wasn’t receiving fair compensation.
“When I started featuring in songs that were breaking the internet and contributing to a film’s success, I understood that many people were earning from my work except me,” Nora said. She highlighted that revenue from YouTube, streaming rights, and film profits did not benefit her directly. “Whatever I earn comes from shows or events. Otherwise, there are no IPs, no publishing royalties… But I understand that it is what it is,” she added.
Rather than fighting the system, Nora found a way to continue performing while focusing on her financial future. She emphasized the importance of sustainability and securing publishing rights and royalties. “What’s the point of being the Dilbar girl for my kids if I don’t have revenue to show from the tag? Generational wealth is important, and that is something I want to focus on,” she stated.
Nora has gained immense fame for her dance performances in hit songs like Ek Toh Kum Zindagani, Dilbar, and O Saki Saki. In 2024, she starred in Crakk, Madgaon Express, and Matka. She will next be seen in the Hindi film Be Happy, releasing on Prime Video on March 14, alongside Abhishek Bachchan. Additionally, Nora will feature in Kanchana 4 and KD – The Devil.
