Oscar Nominations Delayed Again

The Oscar nominations have been delayed once again due to the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences issued a statement announcing that the voting period, which was originally supposed to end on January 14, will now be extended until January 17.

In addition to this, the Academy’s president, Janet Yang, shared that the annual nominees luncheon will be canceled as a result of the disaster affecting the city. She expressed sympathy for the devastation caused by the fires, stating, “We are all devastated by the impact of the fires and the profound losses experienced by so many in our community. The Academy has always been a unifying force within the film industry, and we are committed to standing together in the face of hardship.”

The statement went on to explain, “Due to the still-active fires in the Los Angeles area, we feel it is necessary to extend our voting period and move the date of our nomination announcement to allow additional time for our members.”

The Oscar nomination list is now set to be released on January 23, and the announcement will be made virtually without a live audience. The previously scheduled nominees luncheon for February 10 has also been called off. Despite these changes, the 97th Academy Awards ceremony will still take place at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood on March 2.
