Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are using their platform to rally support for those affected by the devastating Southern California wildfires. Despite facing evacuation from their own $14 million Montecito home, where they live with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, the couple has been active in encouraging their fans to contribute to relief efforts.
On January 9, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex posted a statement on their website, along with links to several resources and organizations helping those impacted by the fires. They highlighted the widespread devastation, noting that wildfires have torn through communities, destroying homes, schools, medical facilities, and more, leaving tens of thousands of people affected.
The couple shared information about various organizations offering aid, including José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen and their own Archewell Foundation, which are providing meals to both first responders and victims. They also mentioned CAL FIRE and the LA Fire Department Foundation, which are supporting the firefighters risking their lives to save communities.
In addition, Meghan and Harry, who are known for their passion for animal welfare, highlighted two organizations dedicated to helping rescue animals: the Animal Wellness Foundation and the Compton Cowboys. They also shared that Airbnb and 211 LA have teamed up to provide temporary shelter for those displaced by the fires. Baby2Baby is assisting by providing essential supplies such as diapers, clothing, hygiene products, and emergency kits, while All Power Books is offering water and supplies for pickup.
The couple encouraged people to open their homes to displaced friends, family, or even pets and urged the public to check on elderly neighbors to ensure they had the support they needed to evacuate. They also asked people to donate clothing, toys, and other necessities, pointing out that the American Red Cross is on the ground offering help.
As of now, at least five deaths have been reported, and around 30,000 residents have been forced to evacuate their homes as the wildfires spread quickly across Pacific Palisades and other nearby areas, destroying thousands of homes. Although Harry and Meghan’s home is in a high-risk fire zone, it’s unclear whether they were directly ordered to evacuate.
Several high-profile celebrities have already lost their homes in the fires, including Paris Hilton, Leighton Meester and Adam Brody, Miles Teller, Eugene Levy, and Billy Crystal.
