Prince Harry played a heartwarming role in helping an elderly man’s special request at a California emergency evacuation center, offering a glimpse into his hands-on approach to volunteering during the wildfires that have been ravaging Los Angeles since January 7.
On January 10, Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, made a surprise, low-key visit to the Pasadena Convention Center to support the relief efforts following the Eaton Fire, one of three wildfires affecting LA. The couple spent time serving food, distributing supplies, and interacting with those affected by the devastation.
Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo, who was present during the visit, shared an endearing story about Prince Harry’s quick response to an elderly man’s request for a doughnut. As Gordo recounted, Harry was wheeling a food cart toward the man, offering him a sandwich, tangerine, or water, when the gentleman requested a doughnut. Harry, unable to find one immediately, promised to track one down. True to his word, the Duke returned about 10 minutes later with the treat. “That gentleman didn’t know it was Prince Harry who brought him that doughnut,” the mayor said. The elderly man even joked that he would vote for Harry if he ever ran for office.
During their visit, Harry and Meghan experienced firsthand the resilience of the local community as they interacted with evacuees and helped however they could.
In related news, Meghan Markle announced on January 12 that she would be postponing the premiere of her Netflix series With Love from January 15 to March 4, due to the ongoing wildfires in California. The show, which was filmed in Los Angeles, was designed as a tribute to the beauty of Southern California. Meghan, who lives in the state with Harry and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, explained that the delay was necessary due to the tragic situation unfolding in her home state.
