Queen Camilla Shares Personal Story During Swindon Hospital Visit

On January 21, 2025, Queen Camilla visited the Great Western Hospital in Swindon to open its new $41 million Emergency Department, marking a personal connection to the facility. During her visit, the 77-year-old Queen reflected on her own experience at the hospital nearly five decades ago when she gave birth to her daughter, Laura. She shared that it had been 47 years since she had been to the hospital, but her fond memories and admiration for its staff were clear. She commended the excellent care provided by the staff and volunteers, noting the significant improvements to the hospital over the years.

Queen Camilla also mentioned her family’s ongoing connection to the hospital, including her grandchildren being treated there. She humorously added that she frequently receives pictures from her family saying, “Guess where I am? Back in the A&E in Swindon.” This highlighted her long-standing relationship with the facility and the importance it holds in her family’s life.

After her hospital visit, Queen Camilla continued her day by attending events at Prospect Hospice, celebrating its 45th anniversary. As president of the hospice, she expressed her gratitude for its continued service to the community.

Queen Camilla’s personal connection to the hospital and her heartfelt speech underscored the significance of healthcare institutions in both her life and the community. Her visit not only celebrated the hospital’s advancements but also served as a reminder of the human connections that healthcare facilities foster.
