RG Kar Case: Shreya Ghoshal postpones Kolkata concert

Shreya Ghoshal’s Kolkata concert has been postponed due to an ongoing protest in the city over the rape and death of a young trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The All Hearts Tour performance, which was originally set for September 14, has been rescheduled for October.

The National Award-winning singer wrote on Instagram about how she was “deeply affected by the gruesome and heinous incident. Being a woman myself, the very thought of the sheer brutality that she must have gone through is unthinkable and sends shivers down my spine.” Shreya made the post on her Instagram.

She also stated that current tickets would stay valid for the new date. The rape-murder tragedy sparked widespread indignation and protests, reigniting the debate over women’s protection. On August 9, while working at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College, the postgraduate trainee doctor ‘Abhaya’ was allegedly sexually assaulted and killed.

All the doctor’s demands for strict punishment of the perpetrators and increased safety precautions for themselves have resulted in national strikes and protests in response to this incident. The Central Bureau of investigation (CBI), is investigating the matter after the Calcutta High Court ordered it to take over the inquiry taken over by Kolkata Police on August 13, 2024.
