Rob Lowe has never been one to hold back when it comes to praising the talent of his fellow actors, and Demi Moore is no exception. Moore has been earning widespread acclaim for her performance in The Substance, racking up award nominations and industry recognition.
In a recent conversation with People magazine, Lowe expressed his admiration for Moore’s success, saying, “It’s really fun,” referring to the recognition she’s been receiving. He continued, “She really deserves it. She’s one of those rare people—both a phenomenal actress and a true star.”
Lowe also reflected on how, just last year, he witnessed a similar wave of praise for his longtime friend Robert Downey Jr., who earned accolades for his role in Oppenheimer. He told People that watching Downey’s success in 2023 and now cheering on his old friend Demi Moore in 2024 has been incredibly special.
Moore’s performance in The Substance has landed her several prestigious nominations, including a Golden Globe and a Critics Choice Award. She’s also in the running for an Academy Award, BAFTA Award, Independent Spirit Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award, further cementing her comeback as one of Hollywood’s finest.
Lowe and Moore go way back—the two first worked together in the 1985 classic St. Elmo’s Fire, a defining film of the Brat Pack era. They reunited on-screen in About Last Night (1986), and their connection extended beyond their professional careers.
During an appearance on Live! With Kelly and Mark last year, Lowe shared that he and Moore briefly dated in the 1980s. Reflecting on that time, he joked, “Look, anytime you put young 20-something men and women together, hookups are inevitable.”
Now, decades later, Lowe is celebrating Moore’s moment in the spotlight, proving that friendships in Hollywood—especially those built over years—can stand the test of time.
