Robert Pattinson can’t believe the enduring cultural relevance of Twilight nearly two decades after its release. In a candid interview with GQ Spain, the actor, known for his role as Edward Cullen, expressed surprise that fans are still fixated on the 2008 film. “Twilight ruined the vampire genre,” fans often tell him, and Pattinson admits it’s surreal to hear such comments, especially after all these years.
He shared his bemusement at fans still bringing up the movie, saying, “Are you still stuck on that s—? How can you be sad about something that happened almost 20 years ago? It’s crazy.” The actor, who has since built a diverse career with roles in The Batman and The Lighthouse, also expressed admiration for the unexpected staying power of the Twilight saga, calling its cultural relevance “insane.”
Pattinson pointed out that the first Twilight film turned 16 in November 2024, with four sequels following it over the years. Yet, even though the series is so old, it continues to be a major talking point. “I find it hard to believe the cultural relevance that these films maintain because they are so old,” Pattinson admitted. “The first one was released in 2008, f—!” Despite his surprise, Pattinson appears to appreciate that his connection to the saga is still very much alive in the public’s memory.
For fans who want to revisit the films, all five Twilight movies, including Pattinson’s iconic performance, are available to stream on Netflix.
