Scarlett Johansson Shares Early Dating Advice for Her 10-Year-Old Daughter

Scarlett Johansson recently shared some valuable dating advice with her 10-year-old daughter, Rose, revealing how she took the opportunity to explain the concept of ghosting. On Today with Jenna and Friends on January 21st, the Black Widow star opened up about a situation where Rose had cut off all communication with a boy who liked her, leaving him feeling hurt and confused. Johansson explained to her daughter that ghosting—simply stopping all contact without explanation—leaves the other person feeling insecure and unsure of what went wrong.

Johansson described how she introduced Rose to the idea of ghosting, saying, “I just had this conversation with my 10-year-old daughter about ghosting because there was this little boy that liked her, and then she wasn’t feeling the same. She just stopped talking to him straight up, and he felt terrible.”

The actress shared her own experiences with ghosting, admitting that she too had been both the victim and the perpetrator due to her discomfort with confrontation. She reflected, “Honestly, being ghosted is awful because you’re just left with no answers at all, and you’re thinking, ‘Oh my god, did I do something?’ It could haunt you for years.” She emphasized that ghosting can make the other person feel terrible about themselves, often leading them into a spiral of self-doubt.

Johansson also expressed that, while breakups and difficult conversations are uncomfortable, honesty is always the better choice in relationships. She prefers the clarity of honesty, even if it’s awkward, over leaving someone hanging without answers.

Scarlett shares Rose with her ex-husband, Romain Dauriac, and also has a 3-year-old son, Cosmo, with her current husband, Colin Jost.
