The latest episode of Severance Season 2 unveiled new, chilling details about Lumon founder Kier Eagan. In Episode 4, the MDR team embarks on a disorienting outdoor exercise, leading them to shocking discoveries about Eagan’s past.
During their journey, they uncover a hidden appendix of his book Compliance, which reveals three major revelations: his twin brother, a disturbing event, and his encounters with the Four Tempers.
While wandering, the team stumbles upon an old television where Milchick (Tramell Tillman) appears, instructing them to locate the fourth appendix of Compliance. According to Milchick, Kier dictated this secret appendix before his death, and the team is sent to Scissor Cave, where Eagan allegedly faced the Four Tempers.
Upon finding the hidden appendix, they see a dedication page that reads, “For Dieter.” This shocking revelation exposes that Kier had a twin brother named Dieter, whom he describes as sharing “the lodgings of my mother’s womb.” This contradicts previous knowledge of Kier’s troubled childhood, which was already complicated by genetic illness due to his parents’ close biological relationship.
As they read further, the appendix reveals a disturbing event: Kier once caught Dieter engaging in what he considered a sinful act. The text states that Dieter was “destroyed” and transformed into a tree as punishment. However, reading between the lines, it appears that Kier drowned his brother at the waterfall in Woe’s Hollow.
Sitting by a campfire, Milchick reads from the appendix, detailing Kier’s version of events. According to Kier, Dieter’s actions justified his destruction, but the reality suggests that Kier was directly responsible for his brother’s death. This revelation deepens the already mysterious and unsettling legacy of Lumon’s founder.
Following Dieter’s death, Kier claims he had a vision of the Woe Temper, describing it as “a gaunt bride, half the height of a natural woman.” An accompanying illustration depicts an older woman with long hair, standing ominously at the waterfall.
Kier recalls that the Woe Temper communicated through her eyes, seemingly blaming him for his brother’s fate: “This is your doing. You suffered his wantonness; now he is no one’s brother, only chaos’s whore.”
This eerie encounter marks the beginning of Kier’s experiences with the Four Tempers, which also include Frolic, Dread, and Malice. These visions shaped his philosophy and later influenced Lumon’s teachings, further cementing the unsettling mythology surrounding his legacy.
