Shakira gets accused of copying Beyoncé’s Renaissance tour ideas

Shakira is facing backlash after fans accused her of copying Beyoncé’s Renaissance tour for her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran global tour. The controversy erupted after photos from her tour’s opening night in Rio de Janeiro surfaced, showcasing stage elements that some say bear an uncanny resemblance to Beyoncé’s 2023 tour setup.

The comparisons began when fans noticed Shakira’s large on-stage screen displaying her name and tour title—similar to how Beyoncé used silver lettering for RENAISSANCE. The most talked-about similarity, however, is Shakira’s use of a massive metallic wolf, which many believe mirrors Beyoncé’s silver horse, “Renee,” featured prominently throughout her tour. The Hips Don’t Lie singer also sported silver outfits, a color scheme that was a staple of Beyoncé’s tour aesthetic.

Social media erupted with criticism, with some accusing Shakira of blatantly copying the Renaissance tour’s visuals, costumes, and stage design. One X user wrote:
“The Shakira tour copy/paste is wild. I’m trying not to think too much of it, but it’s crazy how the team just redid Beyoncé’s entire process for this.”

However, others defended Shakira, pointing out that she has openly acknowledged being inspired by Renaissance.

“You guys can stop dragging Shakira now. It’s been 2 days… She was clearly inspired, as she said she took notes when she attended the Renaissance Tour. Imitation is also a form of art, and she was clearly impressed by the Renaissance tour— that’s a compliment to Beyoncé,” another fan wrote.

Despite the controversy, Shakira and Beyoncé have a history of mutual admiration, having collaborated on the 2006 hit Beautiful Liar. Whether this uproar fades or fuels more debate, one thing is clear: both artists know how to spark conversation.
