Smash Mouth’s Steve Harwell has ‘only a week or so to live’ after suffering liver failure; Report

Steve Harwell, 56, is at the end of his life, as per TMZ. According to the outlet reports, the former Smash Mouth singer has been spending his last days at home in hospice due to liver disease. According to his band’s management, he’s been battling alcohol abuse throughout his life and it’s caused him to have medical complications that he’s had to deal with for years.

As reported by TMZ, Steve has been visited by friends and loved ones who have come over the last three days to say their goodbyes. Steve’s management is also said to have told the outlet that he just had a week or two to live. The band’s social media handles have not yet responded to the report.

The devastating news about Steve comes nearly two years after he made headlines for going on a rant onstage and announcing his retirement. Smash Mouth was performing at the Big Sip festival in Bethel, New York when the event occurred and once the video of his performance became public, many fans were confused. Steve’s representative then stated that he was officially retiring in Oct. 2021 and issued a statement concerning his medical issues.

“Steve has been dealing with long-term medical issues over the last eight years and during his last performance at the Big Sip stage, he suffered numerous symptoms directly linked with his current medical situation,” the manager said to The New York Post. “As of today, Steve will be retiring from Smash Mouth to focus on his physical and mental health.”
