Stephen King says the premise of a celebrated author’s latest work is ‘irresistible’

Stephen King has given a glowing endorsement to Liane Moriarty’s latest novel, Here One Moment, praising its “irresistible” premise. He describes the story as one where a woman, on a flight from Hobart to Sydney, begins predicting the age and manner of death of her fellow passengers—a plot that might seem right at home in King’s own horror-filled world. King shared the recommendation on his new social media platform, Blue Sky, after leaving Elon Musk’s X. The book, released in April 2024, has already received widespread acclaim, marking Moriarty’s tenth novel and her fourth since Big Little Lies in 2014.

King calls the novel “beautifully written” with a serious theme and suggests it could make for a great Christmas gift. This isn’t the first time King has praised Moriarty’s work—he also lauded Big Little Lies, which was adapted into the successful HBO series starring Reese Witherspoon. King has become known for his book recommendations, often sharing his thoughts on other works by authors like Joe Hill, Peter Straub, and Sharon Kitchens, although he’s been less kind to the Twilight saga and J.K. Rowling.

Meanwhile, Moriarty is busy herself, having written the material for the upcoming third season of Big Little Lies. Actress Nicole Kidman confirmed in October that Moriarty is “delivering the book” for the season, suggesting that the new installment is “in good shape.” Moriarty’s books Apples Never Fall and Nine Perfect Strangers have also been adapted into TV series. As for King, in addition to book recommendations, he’s been sharing his thoughts on social and political issues, while also gearing up for the adaptations of his works, including a Carrie series and Edgar Wright’s take on The Running Man.
