Steve Harwell is in hospice with only a ‘short time left,’ Smash Mouth manager reveals

On Sunday, the manager of ‘Smash Mouth’ lead singer Steve Harwell stated that the singer has just a short time left and has been receiving hospice care at home. The 56-year-old singer was recently receiving treatment in a hospital as he entered the last stages of liver failure. As per the artist’s manager, the singer “has been struggling with alcohol abuse throughout his life — and he’s reached the final stage of liver failure.”

The management refused to give any details and asked his fans to “respect Steve and his family’s privacy during this difficult time.”

Steve announced his retirement in 2021, stating that he would no longer be a part of ‘Smash Mouth.’ It was informed at the time by the singer’s representative that he had cardiomyopathy and heart failure. The illnesses came to light in 2015, but Steve made it known when he announced his departure from the band because of his illness. He was suffering from Wernicke’s encephalopathy, a condition that affects motor skills, in addition to his other ailments. He has previously struggled with issues.

Steve has been battling with a lot of health related issues in recent years. He passed out and was rushed to the hospital in 2016 while performing on stage in Urbana, Illinois. Many of his shows were cancelled the next year after he had problems breathing during a sound check before a concert in Memphis, Tennessee.
