Sundar Poonam reveals first look, Sanya Malhotra plays enigmatic bride

The first look at Sundar Poonam, starring Sanya Malhotra and Aditya Rawal, was revealed on Monday, providing a glimpse into a criminal thriller inspired on a true story. The film is based on the 2025 honeymoon murder case, in which an Indore-based businessman was killed while on a trip to Meghalaya shortly after his marriage.

Sanya Malhotra plays Poonam in the film, and she is initially seen dressed as a bride in a blood-red lehenga decked with traditional jewels. The image suddenly flips to show woman applying lipstick and beaming at herself in the mirror. A mobile phone on the side flashes numerous names, including Sundar and Raju, implying secret identities and a multifaceted story.

The teaser is accompanied with a fictitious news report that introduces the story. According to the film’s premise, what starts off as a beautiful honeymoon quickly becomes a mystery, as the couple’s disappearance reveals alarming realities about Poonam. Her passionate love, unhappy past, and hidden secrets are supposed to send those around her into a “deadly spiral.”

The first look also includes the statement, “Inspired by true events that actually happened,” as well as the hook, “Guilt is such a useless emotion,” which alludes to the film’s psychological themes. Pulkit directs Sundar Poonam, which stars Sanya Malhotra and Aditya Rawal (son of Paresh Rawal and Swaroop Sampat), while Jyotsana Nath co-writes it.

Tips Films and Abundantia Entertainment have financed the project, which is produced by Kumar Taurani and Vikram Malhotra. While the project has been formally launched and the first look has been revealed, the release date has yet to be confirmed. This is a Prime Video release. The 2025 Indore honeymoon crime featured the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi by his wife Sonam on their trip to Meghalaya. She was arrested with accomplices, and a charge sheet has been filed. The trial is ongoing, with bail rejected and legal hearings underway.
