Isis Naija Gaston, also known as Ice Spice, is an American rapper who was born on January 1, 2000. Her career started in 2021 after she met record producer RiotUSA while attending State University of New York at Purchase. She was born and raised in the Bronx in New York City. After the release of her single “Munch (Feelin’ U)” in late 2022, she gained popularity.
After meeting a record producer named RiotUSA in 2021 when both were students at the State University of New York at Purchase, Ice Spice began rapping. After a video of Ice Spice completing the “Buss It” challenge went popular on Twitter, he created her debut single, “Bully Freestyle,” which was made available in March 2021. She became well-known on Instagram when her song “Name of Love” acquired popularity on SoundCloud. Drake’s encouragement helped her single “Munch (Feelin’ U),” which was released on August 10, 2022, acquire success when he aired it on his Sirius XM radio channel, Sound 42. The song was also created by RiotUSA and distributed by WorldStarHipHop.
After its virality on Twitter and TikTok, it debuted on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Bubbling Under Hot 100 lists of Billboard. The song “One Time” by B-Lovee included Ice Spice as a featured artist in September 2022. She inked a record deal with 10K Productions and Capitol Records later that month. She released the single “Bikini Bottom” on October 28. The tracks “Munch (Feelin’ U),” “Bikini Bottom,” and “In Ha Mood” were included on Ice Spice’s debut EP, Like..?, which was released on January 20, 2023.
Ice Spice and Lil Tjay created the tribute record “Gangsta Boo” in February 2023 in memory of the late rapper of the same name. It was her first hit and peaked at No. 82 on the Billboard Hot 100. The music video and remix of “Boy’s a Liar Part. 2” by PinkPantheress, featuring Ice Spice, were made available on February 3, 2023. The song reached its greatest charting position for either artist at the time at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100.
