Why Vidya Balan Said ‘Yes’ to ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’ After Turning Down ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’

Actress Vidya Balan disclosed that she initially turned down Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 due to fears it might diminish the impact of her celebrated performance in the 2007 original film. Playing Avni/Manjulika alongside Akshay Kumar in Priyadarshan’s iconic Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Vidya had reportedly conveyed her concerns to director Anees Bazmee, stating that the legacy of her character was one she felt was too important to risk. Her decision was respected by Bazmee, leading to her absence from the sequel.

After the success of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Vidya was approached for the third installment, to which she agreed enthusiastically. It was explained by the actress that the new script had captured her interest and gave her the confidence to reunite with Bazmee and producer Bhushan Kumar.

Vidya noted that the experience “only kept getting better,” especially when she learned she’d be sharing the screen with Madhuri Dixit, whom she described as “a legend.”

At a recent event, Vidya and Madhuri performed the iconic song “Ami Je Tomar,” with Vidya gracefully handling a minor slip during their dance. Describing the performance as both challenging and rewarding, Vidya shared that dancing with Madhuri was a significant moment for her.

Madhuri, who is new to the Bhool Bhulaiyaa franchise, expressed admiration for Vidya’s original portrayal, which she said had made her fall in love with the film and its music.
