Will Ferrell recalled the time he met NBA legend Shaq during an episode of SNL

Will Ferrell recently shared a hilarious behind-the-scenes story about Saturday Night Live—one of the funniest sketches he ever filmed never made it to air!

During his January 10 appearance on the New Heights podcast with Jason and Travis Kelce, the comedy legend was asked for advice on mastering humor. As the Kelce brothers gear up for Jason’s new ESPN late-night show, Ferrell reflected on some of the best comedic moments involving sports figures.

A longtime Lakers fan, Ferrell recalled an unforgettable SNL episode featuring Shaquille O’Neal. Although Kelsey Grammer was officially the host that night, Shaq unexpectedly stole the show. “He destroyed,” Ferrell said. “He was so funny and natural that one of his sketches got cut—because he was funnier than the host.”

Ferrell revealed that the sketch was deliberately left out to avoid overshadowing Grammer. The Elf star also reminisced about another memorable Shaq moment—dressing up as a Staples Center security guard in 2013 and escorting the towering NBA legend out of the arena.

While fans may never see the lost SNL sketch, Ferrell’s story proves Shaq’s comedic timing is just as legendary as his basketball skills!
